    Abstract:

    Introduction: Assessing the mental health of students is one of the important axes of promoting mental health in societies. One of the challenges of mental health in adolescence is the feeling of loneliness, which may occur as a result of internet addiction or cell phone addiction.

    Purpose: The purpose of this study is to determine the relationship between internet and cell phone addiction and the feeling of loneliness among high school students in Rasht city in the academic year 2013-2013. The research samples included 568 male and female students studying in public and private high schools in Rasht in the academic year of 1992-1993. Their classes were selected by cluster sampling method, and to collect data, background characteristics questionnaire, Young Internet Addiction Scale, Cell Phone Excessive Use Scale (COS) and UCLA Loneliness Scale were used. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and Kolmogorov Smirnov, Mann-Whitney U test, Kruskal-Wallis, Chi-square, Spearman correlation coefficient and linear logistic regression. Findings: The results of the study indicate that 37.5% of the samples have mild addiction and 8.8% severe addiction to the Internet, 77.6% of users Average and 17.7% are excessive users of mobile phones and 16.9% scored higher than the average score of loneliness instrument. By adjusting the effects of individual social variables, both the main variables of the research, Internet addiction (P=0.009) and cell phone addiction (P=0.001) were considered as significant predictors of loneliness in the final model.

    Conclusion: Considering the positive correlation of loneliness with Internet and cell phone addiction in high school students, it is necessary to have educational programs for the correct use of new technologies and familiarization with the consequences of their excessive use. To be designed and organized for teenagers and their families.

    Statement of the problem:
    Adolescence is an important period of a person's life, because many beliefs and health habits are formed in these years. We are well aware that efforts to improve health must be made very early and before unhygienic beliefs and habits emerge (1). Human change and transformation in this important period is considered very important in physical and psychological aspects (2). At this stage, mental, physical and social maturity occurs. Addressing the health of adolescents will be beneficial not only for them, but also for the family, society and the future generation (3). Our country is a young country, and more than half of its population is under 18 years old, and among them, the population of teenagers aged 15-19 is 6,607,043 in the whole country and 202,829 in Gilan province, who are potential capitals and future caretakers of the society (4-6). It is obvious that the future of any country depends on the health of children and adolescents. Meanwhile, about a fifth of children and adolescents in the world suffer from mild to severe mental disorders (7). Nowadays, evaluating the mental health of students is one of the important axes of improving the mental health of the society. For many reasons, organizing mental health services in schools is a basic strategy for improving the mental health of students and ultimately the entire society. Since adolescence is one of the most critical periods of life and students are faced with the stressors of adolescence, it is likely that they are prone to emotional problems (8). 
    The feeling of loneliness is a common experience in teenagers, but when this feeling happens repeatedly, it has destructive effects on their physical, mental and emotional health. The feeling of loneliness is the distance and gap between a person's ideals (what he wants) and his achievements (what he has achieved) in interpersonal relationships and intimacies; The greater the distance, the greater the feeling. Adolescents who feel more lonely are more depressed and have more emotional problems and lower life satisfaction.Loneliness increases tension and anxiety, high-risk behaviors such as smoking and drug abuse, skipping school, depression, shyness and self-confidence, and increases the risk of suicide in teenagers (9). A feeling of loneliness may occur as a result of Internet addiction, that is, those who become addicted to the Internet experience negative consequences such as loneliness and isolation, and there may be a vicious cycle and a two-way relationship, that is, lonely people turn to the Internet to reduce their loneliness, and as a result, their loneliness increases. Although one of the important uses of the Internet is its social use; But due to the fact that internet relationships are less rich than face-to-face relationships, in the end, excessive use of the internet makes people lonelier. A person's belief that the Internet is his only special and intimate friend; It increases his interest in virtual friends and decreases his tendency to real friends, resulting in depression and social isolation (10). Titsika et al stated that Internet addiction among adolescents is related to problematic family relationships, poor academic performance, high-risk behaviors, emotional problems, and some psychological conditions such as depression (11). Wang et al stated that harmful use of the Internet is common among high school students, and academic tensions, having virtual friends, family arguments, and poor relationships with teachers and students are risk factors for harmful use of the Internet (12). While the relationships of people, especially children and teenagers, increase in the virtual world, on the other hand, the scope of their relationships in the real world decreases. At the same time, there is also the possibility of harming their educational performance (10). In the research of Yao and his colleagues, it was found that excessive and unhealthy use of the Internet increases the feeling of loneliness over time (13). The results of the studies of Zarbakhsh Bahri and his colleagues, Sawari et al. and Hassanzadeh et al. show that there is a significant positive relationship between loneliness and Internet addiction (16-14); While Odasi and his colleagues did not find a significant relationship between the harmful use of the Internet and loneliness (17). 
    Shoaibi, citing Goldberg, a prominent American psychiatrist, believes that Internet addiction is a pathological and obsessive use of the Internet, the most important indicator of which is a person's withdrawal from others (18). Professionals in the field of pathology provide the narrowest definition for the classification of Internet use. According to their classification, if a person uses the Internet 2 to 3 hours a week, he is a normal user, and if his use of the Internet reaches 5.8 hours or more a week, he is a user who should be examined pathologically (19). Different societies, including Iran, cannot be free from the effects of new injuries, especially new addictions (20). This is despite the fact that access to the Internet is a growing phenomenon, and more and more people are among Internet users every day (21). Currently, about 694 million people over the age of 15 in the world use the Internet, which is 14% of all people over the age of 15. According to a survey conducted by Yount Online Institute, 75% of young people between the ages of 16 and 24 feel that they cannot live without the Internet (18). In addition, the use of the Internet has grown rapidly in Iran and its users are increasing day by day. According to statistics, the number of Iranian Internet users in 2006 was 11 million people, which reached 33 million and 200 thousand people in 2010, thus ranking first in the Middle East countries (22). The prevalence of harmful use of virtual space in Iran has been reported between 3.8 and 86%. The prevalence rate of harmful use of virtual space in the world is estimated to range from 6% to 80% (23).
    Among other new social harms is the excessive use of mobile phones. Dependence on mobile phones in young people and using it as a communication tool can have destructive effects on the personality of teenagers (24). Harmful use of mobile phones is a condition characterized by excessive use and mental preoccupation with mobile phones (25).
