    Abstract

    Strategic orientation as one of the main drivers of strategy formulation has been widely studied and investigated by researchers in the last three decades. But the effect of strategic orientation on export performance has been studied less. The purpose of this research is to investigate whether strategic orientation has an effect on export performance. In this direction, studies were first conducted and conceptual and operational definitions of independent and dependent variables were examined using Venkatraman's (1989) six dimensions of strategic orientation: offensive, analytical, defensive, forward-looking, active and risk-taking, a main hypothesis and six sub-hypotheses were designed, and then Venkatraman's (1989) standard questionnaire was developed among 150 real and legal export agents who are members of the Gilan Province Exporters Information Bank. Based on the random sampling process, 83 questionnaires were distributed and completed and returned. In terms of methodology, the current research is descriptive-analytical and causal, and it is a field data collection method. The research hypotheses were tested using the regression method and finally the effect of strategic orientation and six dimensions on the export performance of the province's exporters was confirmed.     Exports as an engine of the economy play a significant role in increasing production, employment and foreign exchange income, and most researchers have pointed out the importance of exports as a key element in the country's economy. International institutions related to trade and the United Nations sub-group, such as the International Trade Center (ITC), have emphasized the importance of export development and in this context have provided export development methodology and policy recommendations for countries and business units. In this regard, in most countries, including Iran, an export development strategy document has been compiled in the last few years. Most researchers have pointed out the importance of export in developing the performance of business units. Business units export because of responding to internal and external stimuli. Various variables affect export performance. The nature of the variables affecting the export performance and the conditions of the business environment with the characteristics of dynamism, complexity and continuous changes require that companies must use planning that is appropriate to these developments in order to enter and survive in foreign markets. According to our understanding of strategic planning, which is the result of these developments and has been widespread in the world since the 70s. And that most successful international companies use strategic planning (David, Fard 2019). A number of researchers found in their studies that strategic orientation affects the performance of the organization, leadership, entrepreneurship, technology, etc. . It has a positive effect. Therefore, according to the place of strategic orientation in strategic management and strategy development process, the purpose of this study is to investigate the impact of strategic orientation on export performance. In this chapter, first, in the statement of the problem, he defines the research topic, and then, the necessity and importance of the research and the theoretical framework of the research, define the independent and dependent variables, and after the statement of the hypotheses and research questions, the scope of the research will be presented at the end. Wiki is one of the main methods for providing income and using investment capacities. The development of export performance leads to the success and improvement of the company's performance. (Natiq and Niyakan, 2018). Today, companies must have a competitive advantage in order to enter the target markets and maintain it (Kordnaij et al., 2014). With the increase in the number of organizations and business units and the increasing competition, as well as the continuous and unsuccessful change of customers' tastes and the rising level of their expectations, the biggest challenge that organizations face is maintaining and creating a competitive advantage. Access to these two categories requires that companies use planning that fits this environment.. Surveys have shown that most successful international companies use strategic planning (David, Fred 2019). Strategic planning has a process and framework that if properly designed, formulated, implemented and monitored. It can develop export performance. One of the important frameworks of strategic planning is strategic orientation, which is the heart of the strategic management process. Strategic orientation is the actions and orientations carried out by a company in order to adopt appropriate behaviors in order to achieve excellent and continuous performance. (Narver & Slater, 1990, Gatingnon & Xuereb, 1997) Strategic orientation is a concept that is widely used in research related to strategic management, marketing and entrepreneurship. (Liu & Zhengping, 2011) One of the most common continuums of strategic orientation In the literature related to strategic planning (Rahim Nia, 2013), Venkatraman defined a strategic orientation with six dimensions, including offensive, proactive, and risk-taking Manufacturing companies do not produce at full capacity. Most domestically produced goods are not able to compete with imported goods that are higher than the global average or imported goods. Gilan province is not an exception to this rule, and despite the natural, climatic, and investment potential, its exports have not exceeded 50 million dollars in recent years. Considering the problems related to production and employment in the province, it is necessary to investigate the issue of export and the factors affecting export performance. Various factors can be the causes of low export performance of the province. According to the study and investigations, it seems that one of the problems of export units of the province is the lack of use of strategic planning and strategic orientation. It is expected that the development of the export performance of the province can be provided with strategic orientation. Although many researches have been conducted regarding the impact of strategic management and its components on the organization's performance in Iran. However, regarding the impact and relationship of strategic orientation with export performance, very limited researches have been conducted and no research with the subject of this research was observed in Gilan province.

    In this regard, the current research tries to investigate the impact of strategic orientation on the performance of export units at the level of export units. Finally, from the results of this research, appropriate solutions can be provided to improve the province's export performance. Therefore, in this research, the main question is whether the strategic direction of a company can affect the export performance of exporters? 1-3) Necessity and importance of research Exports as the driving engine of the economy play a significant role in increasing production, employment and foreign exchange income, and most researchers have pointed out the importance of exports as a key element in the country's economy and the profitability of business units. In the five economic development programs, special attention has been paid to the export category, and the export development strategy document has been approved and communicated by the government of the Islamic Republic of Iran. Given that the impact and role of strategic orientation in improving organizational performance, technology and new product production, and export market orientation have been researched in many studies, and in terms of the importance of exports in the country's economy, especially the increase in production and employment in Gilan province, therefore, it is necessary to conduct a research to examine and measure the impact of strategic orientation on the export performance of Gilan province's exporters, and present its results for the exploitation, development and culturalization of the issue.

    Regarding the importance and position of strategic orientation in many studies related to strategic planning, the purpose of this study is to measure the impact of strategic orientation and the dimensions of this orientation on the export performance of the province.
