    Abstract

The overall aim of this research was to investigate the relationship between emotional intelligence and the quality of life of Islamic Azad University students, North Tehran Branch. For this purpose, based on the Morgan table, a statistical sample of 192 students was selected by a simple random method.

The statistical population of the present study was made up of all students studying at the Islamic Azad University of Tehran North Branch in the academic year of 1992-1993.

In the present study, Schering's Emotional Intelligence Questionnaire [1] and World Health Organization's Quality of Life Questionnaire - short form were used. In order to analyze the collected data, firstly at the descriptive level, using statistical indicators, the demographic characteristics of the sample were described and summarized, then at the inferential level, Pearson's correlation coefficient and regression coefficient tests were used to find the relationship between the research variables. There is a significant relationship between physical (physical), psychological health, social relations dimension, environment dimension and life situation with the quality of life in the students of Islamic Azad University of North Tehran branch (r=0.758, p=0.001).

    Introduction

People's view of life has changed a lot and they are making a lot of efforts to improve different aspects of quality of life [1] (Nainian et al., 2014). Due to the diversity and variability of the concept of quality of life from the point of view of the individual and different social groups, there is no general agreement on its definition and model. For example, based on the definition of the quality of life group of the World Health Organization [2], the quality of life includes aspects of physical, mental and social health, and even the relationship with the environment (Niva and Taylor [3], 1999). Quality of life is closely related to the concept of good life because some of the main indicators of good life (health and mental health) are similar to quality of life and good life has no meaning without physical and mental health (Ramzani Nejad, 2016). For this reason, several indicators of quality of life have been assigned to job characteristics, job relationships, job satisfaction, and leisure behavior (WHO, 1995). Today, the quality of life has attracted the attention of welfare and social organizations, researchers of social sciences, health, psychology, medicine and physical education (Niva and Taylor, 1999).

According to Bar-an, emotional intelligence is a set of abilities, capabilities and skills that equips a person to effectively adapt to the environment and achieve success in life, and the emotional trait is the basic element in this type of intelligence that distinguishes it from cognitive intelligence. (Turabi, 1382). Therefore, emotional intelligence is an important factor that coaches and athletes must simultaneously acquire the necessary skills and abilities to succeed in the desired sports field, and train this skill as well.

Nowadays, due to the increase in life expectancy and life expectancy, a more important issue has been raised as how to spend life and in other words quality of life[4], which has attracted the attention of experts and researchers in sports and physical education (Ahmadi et al., 1383). Quality of life is a comprehensive concept that includes physical health, personal growth, psychological states, degree of independence, social relations and connection with the environment and is based on the individual's perception of these dimensions. In fact, the quality of life includes objective and subjective dimensions that interact with each other (Eidi, 2016).

    Statement of the problem

Social and emotional abilities and competencies are among the factors that determine and influence the quality of social relationships and success in various areas of life and career (Meir and Karaso, 2001).  Controlling emotions in people, especially athletes and sports coaches, is very important, and in the meantime, in sports fields, emotional intelligence helps a lot in the success of coaches and athletes in sports fields. Understanding emotional intelligence helps sports coaches in selecting players and delegating various responsibilities and understanding their behavior and how to deal with them (Douglas, Wiegand, 2007).

Quality of life is closely related to the concept of good life because some of the main indicators of good life are also (health and mental health)..

Quality of life is closely related to the concept of good life, because some of the main indicators of good life (health and mental health) are similar to quality of life, and good life has no meaning without physical and mental health (Ramzani Nejad, 2016). For this reason, several indicators of quality of life have been assigned to job characteristics, job relationships, job satisfaction, and leisure behavior (WHO, 1995). Today, the quality of life has been the focus of welfare and social organizations, researchers of social sciences, health, psychology, medicine and physical education (Niva and Taylor, 1999).

Researches conducted in the field of comparing emotional intelligence with intelligence have identified the abilities of emotional intelligence, which include emotional perception, emotional regulation, emotional recognition and emotional facilitation, as a better predictor for success and adaptation (Bashart, 1348). Emotional intelligence includes our ability to develop sufficient skills in creating healthy relationships with others and a sense of responsibility in front of tasks (Golman, 1998). By improving this skill, a person's mastery over things increases, the feeling of mastery over the situation creates in the athlete the belief that his efforts will affect success and that he can change the course of events and determine the outcome of the competition (Kejbafnejad, 2010). Therefore, understanding emotions is very important to achieve successful goals (Bradbury et al., quoted by Ganj, 2014) and team spirit and productive sports environment (Lin et al., 2009). One of the important topics of psychology that has been seriously discussed in recent years is emotional intelligence [5]. Emotional intelligence includes abilities such as maintaining one's motivation and perseverance in the face of problems, keeping one's composure and controlling one's impulses in critical situations, delaying success, empathizing with others and hoping (Sasani 2019). Emotional intelligence alone has been introduced as the biggest factor for predicting a person's performance and the most effective driver for leadership and success. Self-confidence[6], relaxation[7], energization[8] and concentration[9] which are components of emotional intelligence have a meaningful relationship or the leadership styles and personality of a leader in guiding and controlling his team and employees, and this relationship can have a positive and high correlation.

Abdali (1384) says that a person experiences one or more automatic emotional responses[10] immediately after observing the result of his performance. So that the result of cognitive analysis of performance and emotional reactions to it determines his future behavior. Barling [11] et al. (2000), found in a research that emotional intelligence is related to the transformational leadership of educators. Gardner[12] and Stock[13] tested the relationship between emotional intelligence and leadership style in 110 high-level coaches and showed that there is no negative relationship between all components of emotional intelligence and leadership style. Lini et al. (2010) have pointed out the importance of emotional intelligence for success in sports, and in their research, they investigated the relationship between emotional intelligence and various emotional conditions and situations with favorable and unfavorable feelings and performance. Or in another definition, emotional intelligence is another type of intelligence that includes knowing one's emotions and using them to make appropriate decisions in life, the ability to manage one's mood and mental state, and control impulses and burnout (Golman, 1995). In 1990, Petersalvy and Mayer [14] used the control of one's own and others' emotions and the ability to distinguish between them and use this information as a guide for one's thought and action (Chernis, 2000). These researchers pointed out that emotional intelligence makes it possible for people to think creatively and use their emotions and feelings in solving problems and problems. And they considered the four characteristics of emotion recognition, effective use of emotions, understanding and understanding of emotions, and regulation and control of emotions for it (Yarasted, 1999; Cherniss, 2000; Pong Teng Phat, 2002). In Baron's model [15] (2000), emotional intelligence is considered as a set of non-cognitive skills, competencies and abilities. His model includes five groups of abilities, including intrapersonal ability, interpersonal ability, stress management, adaptability, and general mood. In 1998, Daniel Gelman [16] in his book titled the function of emotional intelligence defines it as follows: emotional intelligence is the ability to understand and understand emotions and emotions in order to generalize it as a supporter of thought, recognition of emotions and emotional knowledge so that we can organize them in order to provide reasons for intellectual, emotional and emotional growth. The first theory introduced it as a kind of mental ability such as IQ (John K. Shi, 2007).
